    My Services

I pride myself on being more than just someone to listen, but someone to help you look at things a different way, with a deeper understanding of yourself.

You’re taking the first steps on a journey, but you’re not taking them alone.

As a psychologist, my role is to guide you as you take steps towards positive life changes, healing, and a healthy mind. Together we’ll work to uncover and better understand life’s challenges and day-to-day stressors that detract from your life and focus, and begin identifying and practicing things that will make you stronger.

While our focus will be mainly on the present, and how to navigate current life events and relationships, we will also explore ways that previous relationships and experiences have shaped who you are. With compassion, we will explore patterns that work for you that you want to keep, as well as identify patterns that no longer serve you that you may chose to change. As you establish an honest and intentional relationship with yourself, you will also see improvements in ways you relate to others.

    Grief & Bereavement Counseling

Bereavement and grief aren’t light-hearted topics. Bereavement refers to the process of recovering from the death of a loved one, and grief is a reaction for any form of loss. Both encompass a wide range of emotions such as fear, anger and deep, deep sadness.

The process of adapting to a loss can dramatically change from person to person, depending on his or her background, beliefs, relationship to the person who’s passed, and other factors.

    Life Transitions

Has your life been touched by a major event such as a death, divorce or layoffs at work? Are you having a hard time moving through and past the emotional turmoil? Do you feel completely stuck and like you need guidance getting back on track? There’s no denying that life often presents us with our fair share of challenges, usually in the form of sudden change. These life transitions, even the positive ones, can throw us into a tailspin and leave us feeling stressed, confused and vulnerable. But with the right tools, understanding of yourself, and a healthy mindset, you have the power to not only overcome any adversity but also transform into a more authentic and confident version of yourself.

    Therapy for Self-Esteem

Do you suffer from anxiety or depression? Do you often feel awkward and self-conscious in social settings? Are you constantly comparing yourself to others and finding you never measure up?

Self-esteem is a concept that speaks to how we feel about ourselves. When one has high self-esteem, they feel confident, centered, and worthy of love. People with low self-esteem often feel shame and self-doubt. They often feel critical of themselves and are unworthy of love or praise.

    Couples Therapy

Are you and your partner considering marriage? Adapting to a new relationship? Going through a difficult time in your relationship?

Dr. Blanco-Oilar has completed training of the Gottman Method, a form of therapy that lies on a foundation of more than 35 years of research focused on what works for relationships to thrive.

After an assessment process that considers every aspect of your relationship and each of you as individuals, Dr. Blanco-Oilar will create a plan tailored to the needs of your relationship, to assist in ensuring your relationship is equipped to make needed changes, and to be a relationship that can bring both of you the partnership and love you both need. All too often, we are thrown into marriage/relationships at a young age and without the necessary tools. Give me a call, and let us discuss how I can be of help.

    Counseling for Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed.

    Professional Consultation/Supervision

As psychologists, we are our own tool in the important work that we do. In order to ensure our work remains objective, ethical, and of solid quality, it is important to be engaged in consultation/supervision with another psychologist. I am honored to provide consultation/supervision services. I work to create an environment of safety so you can explore countertransference, explore intersectional identities in the therapy room, ask questions about ethics and other professional matters, and have a supportive objective ear to follow the work you do with your clients/patients. Give me a call so we can discuss how I can be of most help to you. I have 20 years of experience doing therapy, have supervised extensively at doctoral and post doctoral levels, and am ABPP Board Certified.

    Telehealth

Do you need support, but can’t make it to an in-person appointment? Are you a busy stay-at-home or working parent, and don’t have the time to drive across town for an appointment?

Do you live in a more rural area, or maybe you prefer to just do things virtually?

If so, we can help you through virtual therapy, or telehealth. Dr. Blanco-Oilar is specialized in providing Telepsychological Services.
